Laura Thomas anchors 7 On Your Side at 5:30 p.m. and reports on the news of the day. In 2013, she also hosted and produced Up Front, a quarterly program that took an in-depth look at various issues in the Upstate. Laura joined WSPA in 2011 from Myrtle Beach, SC.
While in the Grand Strand, she worked as the weekend evening anchor and reporter for WMBF News. In 2010, Laura was awarded the STAR Award by the South Carolina Broadcasters Association for Reporter of the Year. She flew to Washington, D.C. with the first and second Honor Flights out of Myrtle Beach to honor WWII veterans. After the devastating earthquake in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 2010, Laura traveled with the U.S. Air Force Reserve as they delivered supplies.
She graduated Summa Cum Laude, with Honors from the University of Georgia, Grady College of Journalism.
While in school, she served as a student judge for the George Foster Peabody Awards and studied abroad in Oxford, England. She also traveled to China with the Redcoat Marching Band Flagline.
Laura is originally from Clinton, Mississippi.
