Greenville City Council passed a second reading Monday, meaning people will be able to eat from food trucks in downtown Greenville in about 30 days.

Food truck vendors can start applying for a permit starting Tuesday.

The city will work with applicants to choose from a possible five locations for trucks to set up.

City leaders say the ordinance is meant to better control where trucks can set up within the city limits.

Trucks will not be allowed to set up within 250 feet of existing restaurants without writen permission of management.

As part of the permit process, the city will get a 10-year driving record for all listed drivers of the trucks.  Each truck must also have certification from state health officials before a city permit will be given.

The annual fee for the Food Truck permit will be $500 per year.
