Federal money is going towards repairing or adding 500 new handicap accessible ramps in Greenville County.
These areas to receive new ramps were chosen by a top priority list based on use, need, and locations that currently do not have any ramps on them.
The project is part of the Americans With Disability Act Transition Plan.
These 500 ramps are costing $725,000 of federal money.
You may notice new sidewalk ramps that are not attached to sidewalks. That is because every time the Department of Transportation repairs a road, traffic light, or new telephone poles are put in, it is required that they also place a new curb.
The project is expected to be finished by August 31st.
