David Deweese, a truck driver from Greer has decided to use his career as a tool to help stop crime.

In 2012 the Department of Justice investigated over 2,500 cases of human trafficking in the United States. 1,000 of those cases involved children.

And Deweese says he’s seen it happen everywhere across the country.  Deweese has become a part of Truckers Against Trafficking, a group that has worked to educate truck drivers on what to look for if they are approached by prostitutes.

It’s common for truck drivers to be approached according to Deweese, and while David would always decline, he now knows what to look for if someone is being forced into prostitution against their will.

“Now that I know the right questions to ask, and you learn that through truckers against trafficking, you learn what to ask and see if they’re being forced into this. I mean they could be teenagers, which they are most usually,” said Deweese.

You don’t have to be a trucker to spot and report human trafficking, you just have to be aware.
