With your help Spartanburg wants to expand the rail trail, not just in length but what it’s used for as well.
Friday and Saturday the city is looking for volunteers to clean out an overgrown lot that will be used for a facility at the end of the trail. The clean up will go from 8am to noon. Volunteers are asked to park near the 900 block of Pine Street in Spartanburg.
After the clean up, Partners for Active Living want your ideas on what to do with the lot. You can share your ideas at the community meeting at the Thomas Hannah YMCA Tuesday evening from 4 to 7pm.
Leaders hope to have the facility built within the next two years.
Also within the next year and a half the rail trail will be expanded from Henry Street to Main Street.
A study is set to be released within the month on the use of the Rail Trail. Leaders say preliminary numbers show more people are using the rail trail than ever before.
