Six captive bears turned over to the SC Department of Natural Resources in early October have been released to a wildlife sanctuary in Colorado.
Three of the bears were from Spartanburg County and the other three were from Greenville County.
They range in age from 7 to 23 years old.
DNR of transported the bears to the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesesburg, Colorado.
The removal of the bears was part of a four-year-long undercover investigation by DNR. They made 12 arrests in regards to this investigation.
The DNR says they are continuing to investigate illegal black bear activities, like as baiting, illegal hunting, and running of bears in pens.
