The Abbeville County Sheriff’s Office plans a ceremony to honor two police officers killed in a standoff over a land dispute 10 years ago.
The Index-Journal of Greenwood reports the ceremony Monday morning will include a moment of silence and a wreath placed at a monument dedicated to the officers.
Deputy Danny Wilson and Constable Donnie Ouzts were killed 10 years ago Sunday. Wilson was shot as he came to talk to Arthur, Rita and Steven Bixby over threats they made to a construction crew working on a highway widening project outside their Abbeville home. Ouzts was killed when he came to check on Wilson.
The shooting led to a 13-hour standoff. Arthur and Rita Bixby died in prison, while Steven Bixby is on death row.
