The new changes to the GED exam go into effect today.

This is the first time the high school equivalency test has been updated since 2002.

Nearly 9,000 people take the GED exam in South Carolina each year, but only half of them pass.

Educators hope the new, harder GED exam will not lower the passing rate or discourage people from taking the exam.

The test will now take 7 hours to complete and include four sections. Literacy, Math, Social Studies, and Science will be featured subjects on the test.

Many of the questions will relate to vocational training, college, or jobs for the future.
