JACK ROPER

Jack Roper in Pickens County at Pickens Recreation Center, now inside this is where we’ll find Betty McDaniel. She is our winner for the month of August for the Caring for the Carolinas award. Let’s go talk to her.

BETTY MCDANIEL, AWARD RECIPIENT

YAM is Young Appelachian Musicians learning traditional music on guitar, mandolin, banjo and fiddle.

DAN HENDRICKS, FORMER YAM INSTRUCTOR

We worked in the YAM program for about 3 years, and we’ve known Betty for years and since I’ve known her she’s been the most giving person I’ve ever known in my life.

BETTY MCDANIEL, AWARD RECIPIENT

Well, what I see it doing for the kids most of all is giving them the confidence. And I’ve seen this built time and time again, from a very shy person to becoming much more confident about lots of things.

SUSAN WARE-SNOW, YAM INSTRUCTOR

It’s just been a blessing to me, to others, and Betty, as many will say, she is the most selfless person probably in this community. She Gives all and she expects nothing.

JOHN HOAWRD , PICKENS SENIOR CENTER

Betty is one of our key volunteers and board members. You couldn’t have picked a better person who’s an inspiration, I don’t know what we’d do without her.

JACK ROPER

Our friends at Harrison, White, Smith and Coggins – attourneys, Hardees and Bath Fitter make the award possible. But it goes to a very nice lady who’s done a lot of things. This is Betty McDaniel. There you go, congratulations., Betty. Now, I have more. You’ve got a Hardee’s Thick Burger every week for a year. Allright!
