Rachelle Spence joined the WSPA-TV news team as a reporter in March 2015. She was quickly promoted and started anchoring weekend newscasts in June.

You can catch her Saturday and Sunday mornings from 6-8 a.m.  You’ll also find her reporting several days during the week.

She still laughs every time she looks at her second grade journal, where her favorite Crayola masterpiece can be found about ten pages in. The teacher instructed the class to draw what they wanted to be when they grew up. Among a colorful sea of veterinarians, astronauts, and athletes, Rachelle drew a newsroom with the stick figure version of herself reading the daily news in front of a camera.

From the elementary years on, this fascination for journalism only grew. Rachelle took advantage of every opportunity in middle and high school, bringing the latest “breaking news” updates on the cafeteria’s lunch menu. Jokes aside, it was during these years that she became truly captivated by the fast-paced excitement of writing and storytelling.

A proud Detroit native, Rachelle graduated cum laude from Central Michigan University where she earned a degree in broadcasting and political science.

During her time reporting and anchoring for the university’s award-winning newscast, she received the title of ‘best reporter’ from faculty and a Mark of Excellence award from the Society of Professional Journalists for an investigative series on fake IDs.

Most recently, Rachelle migrated south to the Carolinas from WPTA-TV in Fort Wayne, Indiana where she reported and anchored from the state’s second largest city.

Rachelle is passionate about the people she meets on the streets and strives to share their stories with diligence and honesty.

When Rachelle isn’t chasing down a story for 7 On Your Side, she enjoys exploring her new (much warmer) surroundings with her spoiled dogs (Duke and Charlotte), watching college football, and mentoring aspiring journalists.
