One Dead After High Speed Motorcycle Chase In Cherokee Co

Gaffney Police and Cherokee County Deputies chased a couple on a motorcycle Friday, which ended in a fatality for the passenger and a trip to the hospital for the driver, who is in critical condition.

According to the Cherokee County Coroner’s report Lori Michelle Walker, 38 of Boiling Springs, was pronounced dead at the scene and Roger Allen Kirby, 29 of Spartanburg was airlifted to Spartanburg Regional after the crash. Neither of the riders were wearing helmets.

Reports from both the Gaffney Police Department and the Coroner’s Office state that Kirby was identified by a 911 caller as a reckless driver, and then ran from police on a motorcycle with a passenger when the officers attempted a traffic stop.

Eventually Kirby crashed going too fast around a curve on Old Georgia Highway, just before the Spartanburg County line around 6:40 p.m.

An autopsy is planned to be  performed Saturday afternoon for Walker.
