Gaffney Police Warn of Phone Fraud

Gaffney police are investigating fraudulent phone calls targeting businesses and citizens.

Victims in Gaffney and other parts of the Cherokee County area claim they received calls from someone claiming to be from the Gaffney Board of Public Works, according to police.

The man says that their account is overdue and that their services will be cut off within 45 minutes unless they give their banking routing number or credit card information, police say.

The Gaffney Board of Public Works says this call is a scam and says no information should be given to this man.

When the board called back, the man identified himself as a Board of Public Works employee. When confronted, he hung up.

If you have received a telephone call like this and have questions about your account, call the board at (864) 488-8800.
