Greenville’s Bon Secours Wellness Arena will not follow-up on an invitation by the Charlotte Hornets to potentiall serve as host for a D-League team the club plans to start.

The decision was communicated to the Hornets in late May.

Arena general manager Beth Paul offered the following statement on the matter.

“Hornets Sports & Entertainment was notified that Greenville will not be submitting a letter of intent to provide a proposal. Serving as host city for the NBA Development League Affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets would have been an exciting endeavor; however, we are limited in what we can reasonably provide to the Hornets’ organization due to existing building commitments and other conditions that preclude us from responding. We are grateful for their consideration of Greenville, and extend our best wishes to them for a successful search for the perfect host city. In the meantime, we plan to pursue continued discussions with them regarding the possibility of Greenville hosting future pre-season games.
