Pendleton Approves New Police Department

Pendleton will have it’s own police department again, but the process will take months.

Pendleton Town Council approved a $4.2 million budget for next year on Monday night according to our coverage partners at The Independent-Mail.

The Town Administrator tells the paper a new police chief should be hired by fall, but the process of reviewing town ordinances plus hiring officers and purchasing equipment will take some time.

Pendleton has been receiving law enforcement help from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office. A sheriff’s office spokesperson says there was a dedicated officer for Pendleton from June 2013 to June 2014 and there were 870 reported incidents.

There were 880 reported incidents in Pendleton – without a dedicated deputy from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office – from June 2014 to this month.
