1 Dead, 2 Injured After Driver Falls Asleep On I-85 In Spartanburg Co.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly accident after a driver fell asleep at the wheel and ran off the road on I-85 in Spartanburg Co.

The incident happened on I-85 Northbound near mile marker 81 shortly after 1 a.m., Monday.

Troopers say there were three people in the vehicle. The driver, Jasmine Young, 24 of Washington D.C., and another passenger were taken to the hospital after Young fell asleep and ran into a post.

The third passenger, 24-year old Jamaine Lamont Cooper, was sitting in the back seat and was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash;  He died on the scene, according to troopers.

Troopers also say that Young was charged with driving too fast for conditions.
