An Upstate lawmaker has started a petition to keep the Confederate flag up at the Statehouse in Columbia.
State Senator Lee Bright has started an online petition asking people to sign it and show support for that flag.
Bright says even though the calls against it are the loudest, he thinks that doesn’t represent the majority. He plans on introducing an amendment to let voters decide.
“I think that is the fair way to do it. It gives a little time for this national media hysteria to get beyond us and let the people decide,” Bright said.
Bright is also going a step further, sending bumper stickers that say “keep your hands off my flag” to anyone who wants to donate to his campaign.
