Summer is a busy time for car thieves, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
A car is stolen every 45 seconds in the United States, and you may be a target without even knowing it.
NHTSA says your car may be a target, just by it’s make and model. More popular brands are targeted because their parts are easy to sell for money.
Here’s the top models that are at risk, according to NHTSA:
Mercedes-Benz CL-Class, Mitsubishi Eclipse, Mazda 6, Dodge Charger, Nissan Infiniti FX35/FX50, Dodge Avenger, Chrysler 300, Chevrolet Impala, Mitsubishi Galant, and Chevrolet Captiva.
Some other tips include making sure your windows are all the way up, hiding phone cords in your car, and parking in well lit areas.
Alarms are your best defense. Make sure there’s an alarm on your car or a motion sensor near your home.
Make sure you write down your VIN or License Plate number in your phone or a piece of paper somewhere outside your car, so that it’s easier for police to track down your vehicle.
