77 Year Old Recounts Vicious Pitbull Attack In Anderson

A 77 year old Anderson woman was attacked by a pack of pit bulls, Thursday. She fought back using umbrellas and sticks.

“I pray to God before I close my eyes to go to sleep.I tell God, “don’t let me see them dogs on me,” said Irene Sott.

Scott never wants to relieve her nightmare. The vicious attack left her battered body bandaged from ankles to wrists.

“Pulling my hair, it’s all on my shoulders, even my legs,” she said, describing her injuries.

Still, Scott is a spit fire not much keeps her down, according to her daughter. In fact, the avid exerciser was out on a daily walk with her friend, Mrs. Thompson, before the attack in Anderson.

“Only time we don’t walk is when it rains and we don’t walk on a Sunday,” said Scott.

Their walk brought them to Osborne Street. They were staying on the sidewalk and that’s when they noticed the three dogs coming after them, forcing them on to the streets as they battled against the dogs with the umbrellas they brought with them. It was no match for these three dogs, they said. While Ms. Thompson ran for help, Ms Scott picked up sticks, hoping to fend off the animals. All the while, she screamed for help.

“I was praying, saying “Please God, don’t let him kill me. Don’t let him kill me.” I was just all on the ground…couldn’t get away from them,” said Scott.

Reports show police arrived to find scot bloodied. Her clothes torn and she was still fighting.

“I was just trying to live. That’s all,” said Scott.

After a night’s stay at the hospital and a surgery to repair the worst wounds, she’s happy to be home. She says this won’t stop her daily walks, but they’ll be taking a different route.

“We aren’t going back up Osborne, I know that,” Scott explained.

The dogs’ owner is charged with 2 counts of inoculation for rabies, 3 counts of mean and vicious dogs and 3 counts of dogs running at large. This is equal to fines more than $8,700 dollars.

The dogs are currently in a 10 day hold at the shelter.
