Greenville’s Wells Fargo Red, White, and Blue Festival will honor a serviceman with a special award.
Sgt. Andrew Mitchell served six years with the 101st Airborne and was deployed to Iraq and then Afghanistan.
During that deployment, his post came under enemy fire. He survived a mortar round explosion that injured his knee and gave him a concussion.
Mitchell tells 7 On Your Side what July 4th means to him.
“Whatever I go through and what we went through was so that we could have these freedoms to enjoy this day, and I don’t want it to be somber. We have somber days for that, but our July 4th should be celebrated as much as we can,” Mitchell explained.
Mitchell will receive the Wells Fargo Military Hero Award Saturday night.
