Red, White and Boom packs Spartanburg Park

Red, White and Boom

A sea of red, white and blue packed Barnet Park in Spartanburg to celebrate our nation’s independence.

This year’s “Red, White and Boom” celebration kicked off with patriotic music and a performance by “Love and Theft”. Hundreds showed up to enjoy the food, fireworks and fun.

For one Upstate family, the Sloan’s, this year’s event was the perfect way to celebrate our country’s freedom. “I think jut our freedom here as a nation, even though bad things happen, we’ve still got the greatest nation to call home,” said Lyndsey Sloan.

“It’s basically the US’s birthday,” said Kaianne Allen. “It’s the day where we got freed.”

“It’s the birthday of the free country,” said Jaime White. “We can praise God and go to church and worship the lord freely.”

Spartanburg City Police had several officers on scene for security. Officers were seen on bicycle, in the crowd and at their mobile command post.

Some that attended tell us, they were glad to see the police presence at such a large event. “It’s good to see them here, making sure things go smoothly,” said Sloan.

“It’s always nice to know there’s someone there to protect you,” added Kaylee Owens.

7 On Your Side’s own Malachi Rogers and Diane Lee were Emcee’s at this year’s annual event.
