Spartanburg Teacher Accused Of Misconduct With Student Back In Court

Kay stood in front of a judge Tuesday to plead guilty, but victim testimony made the defense drop their plea.

A Spartanburg County teacher who was arrested accused of inappropriately touching one of her students in 2013 was back in court Tuesday on charges of assault and battery.

According to previous reports, Courtney Kay taught at Spartanburg High School Freshman Academy until she was arrested February 6, 2013.

She was charged with third degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, which authorities say Kay confessed to committing the alleged crimes, and she soon resigned from her teaching position.

Kay was going to plead guilty to assault and battery Tuesday in that same case, but during the impact statement by the victim’s family, they accused her of having relationships with students at other schools. The defense then talked to the judge and withdrew the guilty plea.

The case will continue and more information will be updated as it is released.
