A second arrest has been made in a local murder case more than a decade old.
Laurens Police arrested Brenda Roberts, 64, on Tuesday for accessory after the fact in the 2003 murder of James “Jim” Bolt.
“It was hard on the community because you lose a man like Jim and it’s a tragedy,” said Bill Palmer. “It’s a big loss.”
Arthur Jason Bowers, 29, of Murrells Inlet was arrested Friday on the charge of murder.
Bolt was found beaten to death at the VFW on E. Main Street in Laurens where he worked, police say.
Police have been asking for tips in the case for years.
Bolt’s friends have spent the last 10 years passing out flyers about his unsolved murder and working with police. They believe their work is finally paying off.
“Investigators did take some of the evidence I had out of my book and I hope it helps solve this,” said Lamar Patterson.
It’s not clear what role police think Roberts could have played in the crime.
An investigation is continuing and deputies say there may be more arrests.
Bolt’s friends say there is still work to be done. They believe there are more people out there that were there the night bolt was killed. But for now, They believe Jim is likely proud of his VFW and family for working so hard to get someone behind bars.
“Way to go boys. Thank you. I love you. That’s what he would say,” said Palmer. “We loved him too.”
