Man Charged With Vandalizing Howard’s Rock Going To Trial

PICKENS, S.C. (AP) – A jury has been seated in the case of a man charged with vandalizing Howard’s Rock at the Clemson football stadium.

Local media outlets report a jury of seven women and five men was seated Monday and will return to court in Pickens on Tuesday to hear opening arguments.

Micah Rogers of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina, is charged with grand larceny and malicious injury to property. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

Authorities say Rogers broke into the stadium in June of 2013, damaged the case around the rock and chipped off a piece of the stone.

The defense wanted the trial moved, saying it’s being held too close to Clemson. The judge denied that request.

Clemson coaches and players rub the rock before football games.
