COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Ohio Gov. John Kasich says he has experience with the federal budget, national security and running a state, and that will make him unique in the Republican presidential field.
Kasich today is formally joining 15 other Republicans running for the party’s presidential nomination.
Kasich ran for president once before, briefly seeking the 2000 nomination after helping seal a federal balanced budget deal as House Budget chairman in 1997.
Kasich is known for his unfiltered style and policies that are not always in line with his party.
He’s been one of the few Republican contenders to resist going after the chief Democratic prospect, Hillary Rodham Clinton, or President Barack Obama.
