Atlanta Police have arrested the mother of a 2-year-old that was found dead in her mother’s arms after traveling from Greenville.
Police say that the mother, 19-year-old Alexus Washington has been charged with reckless conduct and cruelty to children- 2nd degree. Washington is being held at the Fulton County Jail in Georgia.
The report stated that the mother was traveling to Atlanta from Greenville on a Greyhound Bus.
Washington told officers that it wasn’t until she arrived at the bus station late Tuesday night that she noticed her child was unresponsive. According to the report, she took the child outside and into the store to cool the 2 year old off. Washington said she began CPR when her daughter still was unresponsive.
Police say that the mother did not go to the hospital for treatment and did not call for any help.
When police arrived Washington was seen as hysterical and upset near the Peters Street Bridge. Officers took the child to Hugh Spalding Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
A cause of death will be determined through an autopsy.
Washington had a bond hearing Thursday where her bond was set at $30,000. Her next court date will be August 6 at 9:30 a.m.
