ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. – A man is dead after being shot in the head while he was sitting on a porch of a home in Anderson late Tuesday night.
Roytavus O’Neil Blanding, 24, died in the shooting on West Whitner Street just before midnight according to the Anderson County Coroner. The case is being investigated as a homicide.
A witness to the shooting said Blanding was sitting on his front porch when it happened. David Price said he and Blanding were like brothers. He was walking up the street back to his home when he said he saw a car drive by.
“First thing I noticed was that my house was getting shot at…then when I got on the porch…then I saw a body laying there,” Price said. “It was him.”
A large number of people from the neighborhood gathered in the street as law officers investigated the scene into the early morning hours.
Anderson County Sheriff’s Office deputies have not confirmed if this was a drive-by shooting. An autopsy on Blanding’s body is scheduled for Thursday morning.
Blanding is at least the third shooting in Anderson County this month, according to WSPA-TV records.
