Wake Forest’s Buddie Named Furman A.D.

Wake Forest Senior Associate Athletic Director for Administration/Development Mike Buddie was introduced Wednesday as Furman’s new athletic director.

Buddie replaces Gary Clark, who stepped down in May after more than a decade on the job.

Buddie spent nine years at Wake Forest and oversaw a number of areas.

He was the sport administrator for Wake Forest’s baseball, women’s soccer and men’s golf squads and worked with the football and men’s basketball programs as well.

Prior to his most recent role, he was the Director of the Varsity Club.

Buddie is a Wake Forest graduate, earning a B.A. in communications from the University in 1993 and pitched for the Wake Forest baseball squad, lettering three years and he still holds the program’s single-season record for strikeouts with 138 in 1992.

He was a fourth-round draft choice of the Yankees in 1992 and spent five seasons in the majors with New York and Milwaukee. He was a member of the Yankees’ 1998 World Series championship squad and spent two seasons with the Yankees and three with the Milwaukee Brewers.
