The last two bowl-making sessions for Hub City Empty Bowls’s 2015 fundraiser will be Thursday, Aug. 20, 6-8:30 p.m., during ArtWalk at West Main Artists Co-op and Saturday, Aug. 22, 10 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m., at Spartanburg Art Museum’s Art School at Chapman Cultural Center. These will be free events, where anyone can make one or more pottery bowls that will be used on Soup Day to raise money to fight hunger in Spartanburg. Participants are asked to bring and donate canned food that will be given to TOTAL Ministries. All materials and instruction will be provided at no cost during the bowl-making sessions. Afterward, the bowls are glazed and fired by professionals. Come Soup Day, Saturday, Sept. 26, the hundreds of locally made bowls are showcased in the theater lobby at Chapman Cultural Center, and patrons can select the ones they want each for a $15 donation. In addition, the patrons who have bowls may enjoy as much gourmet soup, bread, and tea as they like, as they enjoy live music, a drum circle, a silent auction, and the fellowship of knowing their donations will help feed hungry Spartanburg citizens. This year, the money raised will be donated to TOTAL Ministries, a faith-based non-profit agency that helps the community’s citizens suffering under financial need.
