Annual Topless Rally Returning To Asheville For 5th Year

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — A rally aimed at attracting attention to laws and stigmas about exposing women’s breasts is returning to downtown Asheville for the fifth time.

Organizers tell the Asheville Citizen-Times that the Go Topless rally is set for 1 p.m. Sunday at Pritchard Park in the heart of the downtown retail and dining scene. It’s organized by out-of-state activists of, and is among dozens of such events planned Sunday in cities across the U.S. and around the world on Go Topless Day, held annually on the Sunday closest to Aug. 26, which is Women’s Equality Day.

The first event in 2011 drew an estimated 2,000 people and featured several dozen topless women. Subsequent events drew several hundred people, most of them male spectators with cameras, and about a dozen women.
