As the Northwood Little League Team from Taylors plays in the Little League World Series, they are the first team from South Carolina to make it to Williamsport since 1950.
Truman Owens of Clinton was a coach for that team. He was just 19 when the team from Clinton made it to the Little League World Series.
Now – at 83, you can still see his competitive side.
“Oh it was great, if we hadn’t gotten beat, Connecticut beat us, that’s the only thing I really remember was Connecticut knocked us out of there,” said Owens.
Owens showed us the pictures he still has of the team.
Owens says sports changed his life. He spent decades playing, coaching, and officiating for baseball, basketball and football.
Now – with Northwood playing in Williamsport, Owens thinks of the players from his team and wonders where there are now.
“I’d just like to talk to them and remember all these things all these things we went through,” he said.
He hopes someone from the team might call him so they can swap stories and remember one of the best summers of their lives.
“It’s been my life you know, and I wouldn’t take nothing for the experience I had with it.”
