Woman Accused Of Suffocating Victim, Arrested With Attempted Murder

A West Union woman was charged with attempted murder Friday after deputies found the victim not breathing with plastic bags over her head.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested April Dawn Townsend, 38, of Smarty Jones Drive around 5:30 p.m.

Deputies responded to an address on Cassidy Bridge Rd. after receiving a call of a domestic situation.

Once deputies arrived at the home, Townsend told deputies that she had to ‘release the demons and that she was the higher power’.

Officers found the victim, a family member of Townsend’s, lying on the floor unresponsive with plastic bags over her head.

According to deputies, an officer began CPR on the victim until paramedics could arrive. The victim began breathing again and was taken to Oconee Memorial Hospital.

Townsend was placed under arrest and taken to the Oconee County Detention Center. She is accused of restraining the victim and placing several plastic bags around her head, restricting the victim’s airflow until they were unconscious and not breathing.
