Trees Topple, Power Outages Caused By Strong Storms In Upstate

Trees were toppled and power was out due to strong storms in the upstate Friday night.

Strong storms caused problems throughout the upstate Friday night.

The storms, some with winds reported in excess of 59 miles per hour, knocked down trees along Interstate 385 in Greenville and caused power outages in the upstate to total near 10,000 at one point. Trees were blown over in some areas in Cherokee, Greenville, Laurens and Spartanburg counties.

Downtown Greenville was especially hard hit with numerous trees blown over in the Cleveland Park, North Main Street and Central Avenue areas. As of Saturday morning cleanup crews were out surveying the damage and Duke Energy was reporting nearly 5,000 outages.
