SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. – The man accused of shooting and killing his wife outside a shelter in Spartanburg County has pleaded guilty.
Robert Lee O’Shields Sr. was sentenced to 30 years for murder and possession of a weapon during the commission and breaking an order of protection.
Mariann Eileen O’Shields was found on the side of the road with gunshot wounds to the midsection in April 2014.
She told them her husband pulled up beside her after she left the domestic violence shelter and fired shots, then drove off.
She later died at the hospital.
Mariann was staying at the shelter operated by SAFE Homes with her 8-year-old daughter. They say the shooting happened moments after the child boarded the school bus.
Robert was later taken into custody after officials say family members brought him to the hospital after having a panic attack.
Investigators tell us the victim filed an incident report with them days before, accusing the suspect of violating the conditions of her order of protection.
