Milliken Buys NY Manufacturer, Plans To Close Lyman Plant

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. – Milliken & Company announced Tuesday that it purchased New York-based fabric maker Springfield, LLC, which owns two Upstate plants, one of which will close.

Springfield, LLC, manufactures technical, performance and flames resistant apparel fabric. The company owns facilities in both Gaffney and Lyman.

Milliken said the Lyman plant, which employs 125 people, will close by the end of 2016. The Gaffney facility, which employs 191 people, will remain open.

Milliken said it will help employees at the Lyman plant relocate to one of the company’s eleven other plants within a 60-mile radius.
