Officers honored at Russ Sorrow and Fallen Officers Memorial Award Ceremony in Greenville.

The Poinsett Club was packed to honor the officers who have died in the line of duty in Greenville and the officers who are shining examples of the profession.

Officer Michelle Lentz with Greenville police was honored in the larger department category for her work creating the GRAVITY program that targets the youth gang problem with preventative and innovative programs.

Investigator Keith Morecraft with the Simpsonville Police was honored for solving a case that seemed to come right out of the movies. What at first appeared to be a breaking and entering shooting – turned out to be a murder where he says the suspect was actually the victim!

Three officers received honorary awards as well – C.J. LaDue with the SC Highway Patrol – Master Deputy Mike Giovanni with the Sheriff’s Office and Sergeant Randle Ballenger with the Greer Police.

It was my honor to present the awards again this year. The most touching moment is the ROLL CALL for the fallen officers – which I streamed live during the ceremony.
