Woman develops stylish gun holsters for women

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KSNT) — We’ve come a long way since the Wild West days of carrying guns just on our hips.

A former Topeka woman has developed a way that only a woman could appreciate to carry a gun, in a discreet, pretty, and slimming style.

“It was just simply patriotism,” said Anna Henry, Founder and CEO of Dene Adams, LLC. “I wanted somebody to do something about it.”

Fed up with ugly, awkward, uncomfortable holsters not designed for women, the single mom of four started experimenting.

“I ended up grabbing a corset and a postpartum wrap and a mouse pad, and I sewed them together and it worked.” Henry said. “It concealed the way I was looking for.”

Thirty designs later, she was locked and loaded, and in 2014 she launched her business. It took off faster than the proverbial speeding bullet.

“In the first quarter of doing business I did just under a quarter million in sales,” Henry said.

The company based in Kansas City, Missouri, is named after her grandfather Dene Adams. A Topeka man who taught Henry a gun is no different than a lawn mower: “If you treat it with respect it’s not going to hurt you, but it can be very dangerous if you don’t use it properly.”

Though Henry admits she’s never had to use the holster in self-defense, that wasn’t the case for one of her customers.

“She came home in the middle of the night and she was carrying in her corset,” Henry said. “And she had a man in her apartment, and she was able to hold him at gunpoint until police arrived.”

Henry’s biggest clients right now are law enforcement officers, housewives, and real estate agents.

She’s also been approached about appearing on ABC’s hit show, “Shark Tank.”
