According to partner station WIAT in Alabama, three people were shot at the Oasis Tabernacle Church in Selma earlier today.

Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson confirms that a baby, the baby’s mother and a preacher were all shot in the church.

According to reports, the woman was shot in the shoulder and jaw, the one month old baby was shot in the hand, and the 61 year old pastor was shot in the leg.

The shooter has been identified as James Junior Minter, 26, of Selma.

The mother of the child, 24, who was shot is the shooting suspect’s girlfriend and the suspect has been taken into custody.

Officials say that a possible motive for the shooting was over child visitation.

Eye witnesses at the scene say they saw Minter sit next to the female and child in the front row of the church and shortly after pulled a gun and fired shots at her.

The preacher grabbed Minter as he was shot, and other members of the congregation joined in and pulled the gun away.

Minter then ran from the scene but was captured less than a mile away. He was taken to the Selma Police Department and questioned.

Minter has been charged with three counts of attempted murder and was transported to the Dallas County Jail with no bond. He could face additional charges after the investigation has concluded.

The woman and her child were taken to a Birmingham hospital.

Police say all three people shot are stable.
