Julie Ann Hays

The missing Haywood County hiker from Tennessee was found injured but responsive around 7 p.m. Monday.

Julie Ann Hays, 49, was found on the north side of Cold Mountain. Deputies say she was taken to the hospital for her injures, but do not know the nature of them.

Hays traveled from her home in Jonesboro, Tennessee on Saturday morning for a day hike on the Art Loeb trail headed toward Cold Mountain. Hays left a note on her car – parked on Little East Fork – indicating she started hiking at 10:00 a.m.

Her husband reported her missing when she didn’t return Saturday night.

She is an assistant district attorney in Washington County, Tennessee.

Several searchers from Henderson County Rescue Squad, Buncombe County Rescue Squad, Asheville Fire Department, Asheville Police Department, and a helicopter from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol were a part of the search.
