RUTHERFORD COUNTY, NC- A western North Carolina man is under arrest after police say he stabbed his father, barricaded himself inside his home and shot at law officers for nearly a full day.
Bryan Keith Houser, 44, will face charges after a standoff with officers at his home on North Fork Road in Bostic. The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office says he fired several times at deputies during the incident that went on for about 21 hours.
The call for deputies to go to the home came Sunday at 10:11 a.m. Rutherford County Sheriff’s deputies say Houser stabbed his 75-year old father with a knife. The victim was able to get out of the home. He was later treated and released from a hospital.
Deputies say they knew Houser had a gun and say he fired several times at them. One deputy had to hold his position outside the home for some time because of the gunfire.
Several negotiators were involved in trying to get Houser to leave the home, but he refused. Forest City Police and the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the home.
Armed officers – using a Hendersonville County Sheriff’s Office armored vehicle – eventually stormed the home. Officers fired gas and captured Houser around 7:30 a.m. Monday.
We’re told the suspect suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. Deputies say he was using a semi-automatic, high-powered rifle. Search warrants were being obtained to enter the home.
An arrest warrant was issued on Houser for assault with a deadly weapon on government official. Deputies say there are more charges to come.
