SPARTANBURG COUNTY – Ground remains unbroken for a Bass Pro Shops outlet in Greer, but a county councilman says the wait shouldn’t be too much longer.
The hope was ground could be broken and construction could start on the 75-acre site for Bass Pro Shops off Highway 101 near the interchange with Interstate 85 by September 1. That date has passed.
Spartanburg County Councilman David Britt tells 7 On Your Side the store is still coming, but there was a delay. Britt says the Bass Pro Shops location needed an entire new design and new engineers were brought in for the project. Britt says that was time consuming.
Company representatives were in the Upstate a week ago. Britt says the hope is groundbreaking for the new store will happen in late October.
Bass Pro Shops is expected to bring other stores along with restaurants and hotels to the Highway 101 (Exit 60) interchange on I-85. the project was announced in April, 2014 to build a 120,000-square foot store at that location.
Bass Pro shops in Greer has been scheduled to open in 2016.
