Every time you swipe your card, your personal information is at risk, with new chipped cards, that should make it harder for thieves.
Most businesses have installed new card readers that take your chip, where you insert the card instead of swiping.
On October 1st, if your information is hacked at a business, and you used a chip reader, then the business is responsible for the tab.
If you do not have a chipped card and the business offered a chip reader, then you are responsible if your information is taken.
If you don’t have the new card, don’t worry, banks are still rolling out the new cards to customers.
