DURHAM, N.C. – A funeral will be held Tuesday for a 3-year-old girl who police say died after her father tossed her and her siblings into a Durham pond more than a week ago.
Alan Tysheen Eugene Lassiter, 29, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his 3-year-old daughter Calista Ivey Lassiter.
Lassiter is accused of trying to drown his children in a lake along Shearwater Drive behind the Audubon Lake Apartments Sunday, Sept. 20.
Two children, ages 3 and 5, were pulled from the water by a Durham sheriff’s deputy. A third child, 7, escaped and called for help.
The 5-year-old daughter was released from the hospital, however Calista passed away Wednesday at Duke University Hospital.
“Your wings were ready but our hearts were not,” her obituary said.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Flowers are acceptable and donations may be made to NAMI – NC, 309 W. Millbrook Rd., Suite 121, Raleigh, NC 27609.
Lassiter was placed in the Durham County Jail under a $2,250,000 bond, but his bond was revoked due to the upgraded murder charge.
