CHARLESTON, SC (WNCN) — A baby who was delivered just as her mom died from a weekend stabbing is now named Miracle.
Malakia Lasha Frazier, age 26, of North Charleston died after being stabbed several times late Saturday.
At about 11:25 p.m. Saturday, police responded to Railroad Avenue in reference to a stabbing. When they arrived, officers located a woman lying on the ground near Railroad Avenue and Graham Street.
The victim’s boyfriend, 26 year old Ricky Short, has been charged with Murder, Attempted Murder of their unborn child, and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime.
The child, now named Miracle Noel Frazier, was emergency delivered.
“Out of every gruesome act, there is a miracle. There is a message,” Doris Bonneau, Frazier’s stepmother, told WCIV. “And we thank God for the life that’s still hanging in the balance. So we believe in God that this child will conquer and be the very expression of who she was.”
Miracle is currently in Intensive Care, but is stable condition at MUSC in Charleston, the TV station reported.
The victim had multiple stab wounds to her upper body, and EMS transported her to MUSC.
