Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System is marking 10 years since the Hospital Emergency Response Team, or HERT, first started.
Jeff Straub, Emergency Manager & Safety Officer, says they realized the need after Hurricane Katrina.
“Six of us went down there and realized, if this happened in our own geographical location, how would we manage that?,” Straub explained.
Straub says the team was the first of its kind in the country. They respond – to any natural disaster, from winter weather – to the flooding in Columbia last week.
After Hurricane Katrina, they realized the need.
Wednesday, HERT celebrated its ten year anniversary by honoring the members and recognizing the people who have helped grow the group from the beginning.|
