Manhunt In Anderson Co., K-9 Dead After Carjacking

One suspect has been caught, two to three suspects are still at large according to Sheriff John Skipper.

The suspect in custody has been identified as 23-year-old Sergio Montez Martin of Anderson. He is charged with attempted murder and shooting of a police K-9.

Sources close to the investigation say four men stole a car and an Anderson County Deputy is pursuing the suspects and that a K-9 officer, Hyco was shot and killed while tracking the suspect.

The sheriff’s office says Hyco was 7 years old. He had been an officer for 6 years and helped capture more than a hundred suspects.

They say he and his handler were both nationally certified.

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office is searching the entire area surrounding New Prospect Church Road near Centerville and residents are asked to stay in their homes.

Witness say they saw the car crash and the suspect run into the woods.


Oakwood Christian School is off lockdown. New Prospect Elementary was dismissed. Westside High Schooland Lakeside Middle School will have a monitored dismissal.


Highway 24 at New Prospect Church Road is open to parents trying to pick up their kids, but will not be open to other public traffic.
