A volunteer worker at Black Horse Antiques in Gaffney has died after falling down an elevator shaft just after 2:00pm Friday, according to the Cherokee County Coroner.
73-year-old Rae Patricia Gilmore of Gaffney fell eleven feet into the basement of the building while the freight elevator was on the 2nd floor, according to the Coroner.
Gilmore was a volunteer and also sold items at her own table at the antique store on East Frederick Street.
As part of the investigation, inspection and service records for the elevator as well as safety mechanisms will be checked.
An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday morning to assist in the investigation.
