CUPERTINO (KRON) — Apple’s giant iPad Pro is now on the market.
It features a huge 12.9-inch screen and a hefty price tag.
If you want the iPad Pro right now, you need to order it online from Apple, and it will ship to you within a couple days. The iPad Pro is not inside most Apple stores right now. But they should be arriving within the week.
So, for now, if you want to get your hands on one before buying one, you need to wait. Call the store before you go to make sure their display units have arrived.
The first time tech reporter Gabe Slate saw it in person, he laughed. He said he thought it was a joke because it was so big.
But the more he played with it, the more it made sense.
By comparison, the iPad Air 2 is 9.7 inches, and the iPad pro is 12.9 inches.
Bigger doesn’t mean heavier, however. The new, giant iPhone is not that heavy. It weighs just under 1.6 pounds.
And it is a powerful machine, almost like the power of a desktop PC. So, professionals with jobs that require heavy-duty computing and processor power could benefit from this.
So, for professionals that travel a lot or have onsite job duties out in the world where they need a powerful portable computer, this is it, Gabe says.
Apple basically put all their special sauce into this giant iPad — CPU speed, graphics speed, quality of the display, quality of the sound output, and the speakers are three times as loud as other iPads.
And as for the overall responsiveness of the interface, the iPad Pro is up there with the Apple laptops, the MacBook or MacBook Air.
To make it appeal to professionals, there is a special keyboard accessory, making it more like a laptop. And for design jobs or people who like using a stylus, there is an Apple Pencil accessory.
So, with its high cost, besides professionals who need something like this, Gabe thinks the iPad Pro would appeal to iPad enthusiasts. Someone who really loves his or her iPad will love the bigger version.
It is a great way to watch movies or TV shows because the screen is so big, it is like a small, portable flat-screen TV.
The iPad Pro starts at $800 and goes up depending on storage. The keyboard accessory case is $170.
The Apple Pencil is $100.
