NO CRASH; Charleston Harbor Helicopter Crash Report Unfounded

CHARLESTON – The story in Charleston was that there was no story.

Reports that a helicopter crashed into Charleston Harbor near the Ravenel Bridge Thursday morning were incorrect. There was no crash.

WCBD-TV reports 911 dispatchers in the area received a call about a helicopter crash in the water at 8:51 a.m. The station talked to several officials who said a low-flying mosquito control plane that was spraying the area scared a caller.

The Charleston Fire Department tweeted a message saying, “report of helicopter crash in Charleston harbor is unfounded. Helicopter in area accounted for” at 9:48 a.m.

The Coast Guard confirmed to WCSC-TV it sent crews to investigate. Also involved in the search were agencies including Charleston and Mount Pleasant police, Charleston County deputies and Charleston County Rescue.
