Spartanburg Water says its solution to fix bad tasting water is working. 7 News got to see how they’re treating the problem at Lake Bowen.
Spartanburg Water hired Aqua Services, Inc out of Alabama to do the treatment. Thursday, they had an airboat and a skiff treating the lake by dropping algicide to combat the algae.
Communications Manager Chad Lawson says the treatment is working, and it’s safe.
“The water is safe to drink and we’re doing everything we can to find the solution,” Lawson explained.
Lawson says since the last treatment two weeks ago, they’ve seen a three-fold decrease in the level of MIB, the natural chemical that makes the water taste ‘earthy.’
It’ll take about 7 to 10 days before they see results from this latest round of treatment.
