#SpartanStrong Run Planned Thursday Honoring Students Killed In Crash

The race is one of the ways the community is remembering four students killed in a car crash in October.

Thursday, the University of South Carolina Upstate will welcome runners from across the area for the first #SpartanStrong 5K.

The race will begin at 6 p.m. at the fountain in front of the John C. Stockwell Administration Building. Registration and check-in begins at 5:30 p.m. Participants may pre-register by clicking here.

According to the university, the race is free for students, faculty and staff.  It’s $10 for anyone else. The course takes two laps around campus and will finish at the nursing building.

The race is one of the ways the community is remembering four students killed in a car crash in October. Joshua Lee, James Campbell, Sarah Vande Burg, and Horace Sproull were riding in a car on 4th Street on October 11 when the vehicle ran off the road, hit a tree and caught fire.  A fifth student survived.

Money raised will benefit the student emergency fund and student expenses.
